Waiting

3 min. Single Monitor Video

My partner and I were caretakers of a funeral home in Queens, NY, where we lived in the upstairs apartment. It was Dave’s arrangement, and he was very much opposed to any kind of art in or about the place, said it was sacrosanct. During the Spring thaw we started talking about moving, so I strapped an old mini-dv camera to the front of a church truck and started shooting to document the place, running through the smoking room and around the chapel because I could. I  re-scanned the footage off of different CRT’s with a first generation usb camera and edited during Covid. It was designed to play on a loop for an installation/exhibition that was cancelled and never remounted.
